New Verdure Pansu Tapestries Added

by admin on Nov.21, 2008, under New Pansu Tapestries

Designer Wall Tapestries has added new Verdure tapestries to its Pansu Tapestry line. The new line consists of, Verdure Chantilly Tapestry, Verdure Hautil Tapestry, Verdure Meudon Tapestry, and Verdure Villeroi Tapestry respectively.

Verdure Chantilly

The Verdure type of tapestry was decorated with a design based on plant forms or European forests. It is not known exactly when the first verdure tapestries were made, but by the late 16th century tapestries with formal designs derived from forest scenes had become immensely popular. In the last half of the 17th century, landscapes were incorporated into their design.

History of Pansu or “Halluin tapestries”

by admin on Nov.19, 2008, under New Pansu Tapestries

Jules Pansu was twenty in 1871. He had learnt the art of weaving in the family mill in Voiron en Isère. In 1878, he decided to set up his own company in Lyon and travelled through Europe to Russia to sell his silk furnishing products. He then set up in Paris and expanded his area of business, acquiring weaving mills in the North of France where he had the first Jacquard tapestries woven. The weaving unit was based in Halluin, and it is from this that the name “Halluin tapestries” originates, the name given to J. Pansu’s collection of tapestries.

In 1911, he had an attractive 6-floor building constructed to set up his headquarters, a building which continues to serve as the company’s head office today. He is an advisor on international trade, and a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.Following his death in 1917, his son Jules took over the business on his return from war in 1919. Under his leadership, business developed significantly, both in France and abroad. It was a time of sumptious décor, interrupted by the depression, then war once again. After the Second World War, the company resumed its operations and continued to expand. A Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur like his father, he died in 1963. Under the dynamic leadership of his three sons, the company continued to grow.

The fourth generation of the Pansu family - Séverine, Alain and Eric - has now taken over the helm, taking on new developments, dedicated to extending the influence of a family business which is celebrating its 125th year of existence. Info provide by http://www.pansu.com/index-gb.htm

We are proud to announce our new Pansu Tapestry line of wall tapestries in which they perpetuate with great passion the art of weaving as characterized by many different stitches, among them the famous Halluin stitch, the Loiselles stitch, the “Gobelins” type stitch and more recently, the Meurins stitch. Some of our new tapestries are: Les Chevaliers de la Table Ronde, Verdure Villeroi Tapestry, Duc de Berry Tapestry, and the beautiful Le Lignon Classique Tapestry

Decorating With Large Tapestries

by admin on Nov.18, 2008, under Large Tapestries

Many homeowners looking to decorate their walls have been neglecting tapestries. Most just look at paintings, photographs, and other artifacts. That is a shame because tapestries are one of the most unique and elegant wall decoration items that one can possibly find.

For starters, tapestries come in many sizes. Depending on the size of your walls, there will be something that is suitable. But what are the differences between a piece of tapestry and a traditional wall painting? And what are the benefits? Why should a homeowner choose a tapestry over a painting? Let’s explore some benefits.

Wall tapestries are woven from different types of textiles such as cotton, wool or linen. Sometimes, artists may even use gold, silver or silk. When higher quality materials are used, the tapestries appear more luxurious and elegant. This effect cannot be achieved by paintings.

Historically, tapestries were only used by affluent families to decorate their homes. Since affluent families live in huge houses like manors and castles, the tapestries were also unusually large as well.

Large tapestries are ideal center pieces for wall decoration. If there is any gold, silver or silk used in the tapestry, the image will reflect light and the glitter will attract attention. It is not uncommon to see guests walking into a large hall and upon seeing the large tapestry, a soft gasp escaped the lips as the guests look on with awe and wonder. Such is the powerful effect of a large wall tapestry. A wonderful example of a beautifully detailed large tapestry is the Triumph of Flora Tapestry
