History of Pansu or “Halluin tapestries”

by admin on Nov.19, 2008, under New Pansu Tapestries

Jules Pansu was twenty in 1871. He had learnt the art of weaving in the family mill in Voiron en Isère. In 1878, he decided to set up his own company in Lyon and travelled through Europe to Russia to sell his silk furnishing products. He then set up in Paris and expanded his area of business, acquiring weaving mills in the North of France where he had the first Jacquard tapestries woven. The weaving unit was based in Halluin, and it is from this that the name “Halluin tapestries” originates, the name given to J. Pansu’s collection of tapestries.

In 1911, he had an attractive 6-floor building constructed to set up his headquarters, a building which continues to serve as the company’s head office today. He is an advisor on international trade, and a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.Following his death in 1917, his son Jules took over the business on his return from war in 1919. Under his leadership, business developed significantly, both in France and abroad. It was a time of sumptious décor, interrupted by the depression, then war once again. After the Second World War, the company resumed its operations and continued to expand. A Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur like his father, he died in 1963. Under the dynamic leadership of his three sons, the company continued to grow.

The fourth generation of the Pansu family - Séverine, Alain and Eric - has now taken over the helm, taking on new developments, dedicated to extending the influence of a family business which is celebrating its 125th year of existence. Info provide by http://www.pansu.com/index-gb.htm
